SMARTIFLIX – IPTV Subscription for Canadian Homes - Live TV, Hockey and 4K

MAG and Formuler Box Setup for a Main Canadian TV

Some Canadian households have run a dedicated IPTV box under the main TV for years, often a MAG passed along by a relative or a Formuler bought because a family member wanted something that behaves like cable. These boxes are made for live TV and nothing else, and they feel it: quick channel changes, a real remote and nothing to sideload. They sign in differently from apps, though. A MAG connects to a portal tied to its MAC address, and a Formuler uses its MyTVOnline app. This guide begins with the details to gather before you contact us, then walks through both boxes.

Gather these first

  • A MAG box from Infomir or a Formuler box such as the Z11 series
  • The box’s MAC address, from the label or the settings screen
  • The portal address we send once your MAC is activated

Waiting on credentials? You can follow along with a free 24-hour trial login, or see the plans in US dollars first.

The setup, one screen at a time

  1. Gather what you need first

Turn the box over and find the label. The MAC address is printed there and also appears in the box’s device information screen. A MAG MAC begins with 00:1A:79. Take a clear photo of the label rather than copying the characters by hand, because a single wrong digit is the most common reason activation fails. While you are behind the TV, check whether the box is connected by Ethernet: both MAG and Formuler boxes have a port, and using it avoids most evening buffering. Confirm the remote works, then send the photo to our support team on WhatsApp.

  2. Wait for activation

We activate the portal for that MAC and reply with the portal address. Do not enter anything until that reply arrives; a portal entered before activation shows an error that can be mistaken for a wrong address. Activation is normally quick, but if you are setting up in the evening, use the wait to check the box’s cable and power connections and to make sure its firmware update, if the box offers one, has finished. A box that restarts halfway through an update can behave oddly the first time it loads a portal.

  3. MAG: add the portal

On the MAG, open Settings, then System settings, Servers, Portals. Give Portal 1 any name you like, such as SMARTIFLIX, and enter the portal address exactly as sent. Save, then restart the box from the settings menu or by switching it off and on. The portal only loads after that restart.

  4. Formuler: use MyTVOnline

On a Formuler, open MyTVOnline, whether version 2 or 3 depending on the model, and choose to add a portal, supplying a name and the portal address. MyTVOnline also accepts an Xtream Codes login if you prefer to use your username and password. Because Formuler boxes run Android, TiViMate can be installed too if you want its guide.

  5. Build a Canadian channel list

Once the channel list appears, open the Canadian groups and mark the channels you watch as favourites using the portal’s favourite option or the remote’s favourite key, depending on the box. For a bilingual household, include both the French and English channels you rely on, so the favourites view covers the whole family.

  6. Set the time zone for your province

The guide compares its schedule with the box’s clock. On a MAG, look for the time zone option in the system settings, since its exact position varies by firmware. On a Formuler, use the Android date and time settings. Choose your province’s zone, remembering that Newfoundland runs half an hour ahead of Atlantic time and most of Saskatchewan does not change its clocks.

  7. Learn the remote buttons that matter

Dedicated boxes reward a few minutes with the remote. The exact layout differs between remote models, but on both MAG and Formuler boxes a handful of keys, typically menu, info, back and the channel list, do most of the everyday work, with the rest reached through on-screen menus. Show the rest of the household how to reach Favourites and the guide, and how to restart the box if the picture freezes, and most evening questions answer themselves. Label the HDMI input on the TV so nobody lands on the wrong source by mistake.

  8. Keep it steady on a cold, busy night

A dedicated box on Ethernet is the most dependable setup for evening viewing, so if yours is still on Wi-Fi, a cable is the first improvement. Restart the box before a big game if it has been running for weeks. If channel changes feel slow while the house is streaming heavily, choose the HD rather than the 4K version of the channel and check that no other device is running large downloads.

If a step does not work

The portal shows STB blocked or stays blank

Either activation has not completed yet, or the MAC we received has a wrong character. Send the label photo again and wait for confirmation, then restart the box.

The guide is out by an hour or more

The box’s time zone is wrong. Set the correct zone for your province in the system settings, restart the box, and give the guide a few minutes to reload.

Wi-Fi drops on a box in the far corner of the house

MAG and Formuler boxes are built with wired connections in mind, and their Wi-Fi is often weaker than a phone’s. Run an Ethernet cable, use a powerline adapter, or place a mesh node near the TV.

Audio plays in the wrong language

During playback, open the box’s playback menu and look for audio track selection. If the channel carries only one language, choose its English or French counterpart from the category list.

MyTVOnline says the portal cannot connect

Check the portal address for typing mistakes, especially the slash at the end if one was included in our message. Confirm the Formuler has internet by opening another app. If the portal still refuses, try the Xtream Codes login option in MyTVOnline with your username and password instead.

MAG and Formuler box: setup questions

Is a MAG box better than a Firestick?

For a main TV used every day, many households prefer it: a proper remote, a quick guide and nothing to sideload. It costs more than a stick. For a secondary TV, a stick is usually good enough.

Can I move my MAG box to the cottage?

Yes. The portal is tied to the MAC address, not to your home address, so the box works wherever it has internet. Check the time zone if the cottage is in another province.

What happens if I replace my box?

A new box has a new MAC address, so send us the new label photo and we move the activation across. Formuler users on an Xtream login can simply sign in on the new box.

Does a MAG box work with French and English channels?

Yes. The channel list is the same as on any other device, so the Canadian English and French groups are both there. Put the ones your household uses in favourites so both languages are close at hand.

Can I use a MAG box and a Firestick on the same account?

Yes. The MAG connects through its portal and the stick through an app, but both use your subscription. As with any combination of devices, the number of streams playing at the same time is set by your plan.

Should I choose MAG or Formuler?

A MAG is the simplest: portal in, TV on, nothing else to learn. A Formuler runs Android, so it can also install apps such as TiViMate or a weather app for the cottage. If you like options, Formuler; if you want an appliance, MAG.
