The setup, one screen at a time
Check the device and connection first
Confirm the TV runs Android TV, Google TV or Fire OS; TiViMate has no version for Samsung, LG, Roku or Apple. Then check the network at the screen itself. TiViMate’s guide is at its best on a device with a steady connection, so if the main TV sits far from the router, consider a cable or a mesh node now. Keep your login details open on your phone, ideally with the Google TV or Fire TV phone app ready to act as a keyboard.
Install TiViMate
On Android TV and Google TV, search the Google Play Store for TiViMate IPTV Player and install it. On a Fire TV Stick it is not in the Amazon Appstore, so it has to be sideloaded with Downloader, as described in the Firestick guide. On an Android box without the TV version of the Play Store, the same Downloader approach applies. Once installed, open TiViMate once from the apps list, then move it to the front of your home screen favourites so the rest of the household finds it without searching. On Google TV, that option is in the menu that appears when you long-press the app icon.
Add your playlist with Xtream Codes
Open TiViMate and choose Add playlist, then Xtream Codes login. Enter the server address including http:// and the port, then your username and password, and select Next. TiViMate does not need an M3U link for this account, and the Xtream route carries the guide with it.
Name it and choose groups
Give the playlist a clear name, such as SMARTIFLIX, in case you add another later. TiViMate then lists channel groups and lets you choose which to include. You can change this later, but it is worth unticking the regions nobody in the house watches, which makes the guide much faster to scroll on a list of 25,000+ channels.
Put Canadian groups at the top
Open Settings, Playlists, select the playlist and use its group management to reorder and hide groups. Move the Canadian English and French groups to the top. Then, in the guide, long-press on a channel to add it to Favourites. Favourites appear as their own group, so a hockey night can start from a single list of the national and regional sports channels you use.
Set the guide to your province
TiViMate draws its guide against the device clock, so check the device time zone first in the Android or Fire TV date and time settings. Then look at a program you know. If everything is shifted by the same amount, use the EPG time shift or offset option in TiViMate’s settings. Viewers in Newfoundland should double-check this carefully, as the half-hour offset makes errors easy to miss at a glance. Setting the EPG update interval to once or twice a day keeps the grid current.
Arrange the guide for the family
TiViMate’s settings include options that change how the guide looks and how much of the grid appears at once. On a large living-room TV watched from across the room, a less crowded grid is easier to read, so try a few combinations while someone sits on the couch and tells you what they can read. Put favourites first, keep the Canadian groups just below, and grandparents and kids alike can find their channels without learning a new system.
Consider Premium, then tune for a busy night
Premium is a paid upgrade that adds recording, multi-view and multiple playlists. It is bought through the separate TiViMate Companion app on an Android phone, not inside TiViMate on the TV, and a trial is available. For the busy evenings that come with cold weather, use hardware decoding in the playback settings, choose FHD over 4K when several screens are active, and keep the main TV on Ethernet if you can. Multi-view uses more bandwidth, so save it for when the network is quiet.
If a step does not work
Playlist could not be loaded
Check that the server address includes its port and that your plan is active. Then type the password by hand instead of pasting it, since copied text can carry an invisible trailing space.
The guide shows no information
Trigger an EPG update from TiViMate’s settings and restart the app. A first guide load on a large list can take longer than expected, so give it a few minutes before trying again.
Every program is listed an hour early
The device clock is set to the wrong zone, often Eastern on a box used in Manitoba or Central on one in Ontario. Fix the device time zone, restart TiViMate, and only use the time shift setting if a difference remains.
The French broadcast will not switch to English
During playback, open the on-screen menu and choose the audio track option. If only one language is listed, the feed has a single track, so pick the other-language channel from the Canadian groups.
TiViMate is not in the Play Store search on my box
Some Android boxes run the phone version of Android, which does not show the TV version of apps. Install it with Downloader as you would on a Fire TV Stick, or check whether the box has an official Google TV certification before relying on its store.

TiViMate: setup questions
Is TiViMate Premium worth it for hockey?
If you want to record a late West Coast game or watch two games at once, the Premium features do exactly that. If you only watch live, the free version is enough. It is a paid upgrade from the TiViMate developer, separate from your SMARTIFLIX plan.
Does SMARTIFLIX work with TiViMate?
Yes. Accounts are standard Xtream Codes logins, which TiViMate supports directly under Add playlist, so channels and the guide load without extra setup.
Can I use TiViMate on an iPhone or Samsung TV?
No. TiViMate is only for Android devices. On Apple devices and Samsung or LG TVs, IPTV Smarters is the usual alternative, and it takes the same login.
Where do I buy TiViMate Premium?
Premium is purchased through the TiViMate Companion app on an Android phone, where you sign in with a TiViMate account and then sign in to that account on the TV. It is not sold inside TiViMate on the television itself, which confuses many people the first time.
Can TiViMate show only Canadian channels?
Yes, in effect. When you add the playlist, and later under the playlist settings, you can hide any group you do not want. Hide the regions nobody watches and TiViMate’s guide shows only the Canadian groups and your favourites.
Does TiViMate work at the cottage?
Yes, on any Android device with internet. Give the guide extra time to update on a slower connection, and pick HD channels rather than 4K if the line is limited.
